Ability to model safe, responsible, legal and ethical use of technology and implement school and district acceptable use policies including fair-use and copyright guidelines and Internet user protection policies.
The Digital Citizenship presentation helped me as I was creating, modeling, and teaching my two lessons required in this course. I was able to more effectively explain online ethics that students should employ while working online, mainly in my discussions with students as they were working on their glogs and animoto assignments. Students are always particularly interested in the idea of copyright information. After completing this assignment, I was able to explain to them what copyright actually means and how it protects people’s ideas. I was able to tell them that, if the create their work, it is, in fact, copyrighted. Furthermore, as an English teacher and technology education teacher, I was able to adequately explain and even use this PowerPoint to help students understand and avoid plagiarism. Many of my students continued to ask me what types of plagiarism existed, so they could, at all costs, avoid plagiarizing on their projects and on other projects they will do in the future.
